Olá sou Lucy!

Hi I’m Lucy!

At the tender age of 20 years old, I left my home in Perth Western Australia on my first ever trip overseas, armed with little more than a UK working visa, a brand new backpack and a grossly inadequate amount of savings. After a teary airport send off, I went out into the big wide world.

Out on my first overseas adventure, I was instantly hooked on the world that had opened up in front of me as soon as I stepped off the plane. 15 years later, I still haven’t returned to live in my home town. After spending the past decade and a half between the UK, Italy and Melbourne, I arrived in Portugal at the start of 2020, ready and raring for a new adventure.

Unfortunately, the covid-19 pandemic struck within months of me arriving. But while many aspects of life were put on hold, the restrictions on travel meant I was able to take the time to get to truly know Portugal.

What I’ve discovered so far is a compact country brimming with natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage, with friendly locals to boot. And as I continue to explore and uncover hidden gems, I fall deeper in love with Portugal. Yes, the bureaucracy can be frustrating, houses lack decent heating in winter and finding good vegetarian options is sometimes impossible. But no country is perfect and in Portugal the good far outweighs the bad.

And now I am sharing what I have learnt and discovered in the hope that more travellers will realise what an awesome place Portugal is! Whether you are here on a jammed packed city break, a month long road trip or considering making the move here yourself, join me in travelling Portugal and appreciating this amazing little country.
